This workshop is designed for master scheduling and administrative teams who want to move from "getting it done" to "getting it right."

October, 2026:
As state governments are being challenged to revise policies for individuals who have been excessively or wrongfully incarcerated to diminish further harm, various forms of reparations and restitutions are being considered.
Likewise, some school and district leaders have recognized that there may be subjective policies and procedures in their organizations that contribute to excessive disciplinary measures for certain student populations. This session
will allow attendees to reflect upon their organization’s current disciplinary policies, procedures and practices and determine the short-term to long-term impact on every student population. Attendees will also participate in a variety of research-based Restorative Practice activities with social emotional learning (SEL) habits.

This two-day* professional development session introduces educators and support staff to the foundations and practical application of Practical Functional Assessment (PFA) and Skill-Based Treatment (SBT) in school settings. On Day One, participants will explore the values and structure of the PFA-SBT model, learn how to collect and analyze data to inform assessment, and engage in case examples and role-play activities to design and conduct a PFA. Day Two focuses on implementing Skill-Based Treatment, including strategies for teaching communication, toleration, cooperation, transitions, and perseverance. The session will also address advanced considerations and the unique nuances of applying the PFA-SBT framework within school environments, helping teams build practical strategies to support students with challenging behaviors.

In the workshop, we will discuss common challenges seen in the classroom, antecedent (proactive) interventions, an overview of ABA (4 functions of behavior), and how to strengthen classroom management.

About MOESC PD:
The MOESC Professional Development Series provides public and non-public partners with quality, cost-effective learning experiences from highly qualified presenters. All educators, administrators, and support staff are welcome to attend. Our sessions will be held on-site at our MRA International Learning Center in Tinton Falls.
We are excited to partner with Kiker Learning, Google for Education PD Partner of the Year (2024), to provide educational technology training. In addition, our MOESC PD team offers sessions on various topics from inclusive education and student engagement to social-emotional learning.
