Overview: Wilson Fundations make learning to read fun and helps future reading difficulties by giving children in the regular classroom a foundation for reading and spelling. It provides teachers with the skills and tools needed to present a structured sequential and cumulative phonics/spelling program using multisensory techniques. In addition to the daily whole class lesson, students who struggle in the general classroom (lowest 30^th percentile) should also have additional Fundations instruction in a small group setting.

If Fundations is not used in the general classroom, it can be used as an intervention program for students in the lowest 30^th percentile. These students should have Fundations for 40-60 minutes each day, completing the 25-minute daily lesson, plus supplemental activities as appropriate.

Outcome

Objectives: Participants will gain knowledge and skills in:

· Setting a foundation for life-long literacy.

· The concepts and skills in the Fundations manual and materials.

· The components of phonological and phonemic awareness.

· The teaching of irregular words and word structure.
