Each year Meridian hosts several project-based events that allow
students to work on projects. Past events have included a Mardi Gras, “A Night in
Egypt”, “Save the Rainforest”, and “Under the Sea”. This year Meridian will host
several events whereby students will be engaged in hands-on studies of various curricular
areas. Using a project-based approach, the students will engage in school-wide activities
that center around thematic teaching and learning opportunities. This year’s topic
will be “Down Under”, highlighting the culture of Australia – its people, animals,
plant life, etc. These events are held in the evening in order to include family
and friends. It is amazing to see how the students become excited and involved when
they participate in every aspect of the planning, organizing, preparing and hosting
these events. When students work hard, they take ownership in the task, and success
is inevitable.
