In a cooperative effort with local districts to increase cost efficiency,
the MOESC has implemented various cooperative purchasing/bidding projects.
- School Supplies - Bulk bidding of school supplies exceeds a 40 percent discount
from state contract prices: a cumulative savings of over $150,000 for 14 districts.
In addition to standard classroom/office supply needs, bids are also received for
custodial, athletic, fine arts, health, industrial arts and science supplies.
- Fuel Oil and Gasoline - Cooperative purchasing of fuel and gasoline (55,000 and
one million gallons, respectively) saves county taxpayers approximately $100,000
annually.
- Bread and Milk - Over $30,000 is saved annually by 10 districts in the cooperative
purchase of a dozen different bread products and ten liquids, including milks, tea
and juices.
- Telecommunications - Participating districts save over 20 percent for toll call/long
distance services by cooperatively bidding through the MOESC.
- Natural Gas – Purchasing natural gas for more than 40 school districts and municipalities,
our co-op is the largest in the State. Savings average about 10%
- Calculators – Significant savings on a large variety of hand-held calculators and
overheads used in elementary and high school testing.
