The goal of Crossroads is to provide drug awareness education,
ongoing assessment, and academics for classified and non-classified students in
grades 7 – 12 who cannot attend school due to substance abuse issues.
Students are provided two hours daily of substance abuse education and counseling.
The educational program covers all aspects of chemical abuse and dependency, including
an overview of the disease model, the role of 12-step programs in supporting abstinence,
the stages of recovery and relapse prevention, and the impact of stress on drug
use. Students are exposed to a variety of materials, including lectures, videos
and workbooks, as well as involvement in role play and instruction in biofeedback
and stress reduction. Program services include assessment, group and individual
counseling, drug testing and referral for psychiatric evaluation or higher levels
of care when needed.
Daily academic instruction is provided based on the Individualized Education Program
or an approved curriculum. Instruction techniques take into account the effects
of chemical use on learning, and lesson plans are designed to provide an experience
of achievement rather than frustration and failure.
Program hours are daily, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Length of stay is variable depending
upon student need. All referrals must be made by the district as payment is tuition
based and no insurance is accepted. Students with co-occurring psychiatric disorders
will be admitted if they are stabilized on medication and medicated at home. Appropriate
referrals can processed and admitted in as little as 24 hours.
