About Us
The Enhancement Technology Program was designed to provide a full academic experience in a non-traditional setting. Located on the Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) in New Jersey, learning occurs in an academic format consisting of technology based instructional units. School objectives encompass the development of acceptable work habits, self control, social skills and academic success. Students work independently or together in small learning teams. Critical thinking skills are developed as students acquire and process data from such diverse areas as Economics, Mathematics, Language Arts, Biology, Physics, Political Science, and Social Studies. Computer instruction is provided daily by our teaching staff and also through New Jersey Virtual School (NJVS) online courses for Life Management Skills and Adaptive Physical Education. Our Adventure Based Education program enables the students to participate in outward bound activities throughout the month. Utilizing the full size gymnasium, along with indoor and outdoor exercises, the students are provided with a well-rounded program. Support and counseling services are available to all students by our Student Assistance Counselor and School Social Worker.
Student Profile
The Enhancement Technology Program accepts classified and non-classified middle and high school students who have been unsuccessful in a traditional setting for a variety of reasons such as; excessive absenteeism, lack of social skills, not enough academic credits, those who need a smaller learning environment or who may be on probation. Prospective students are referred to the program through their guidance counselor or the Child Study Team. Each new student and Parent/Guardian is provided with an orientation and a student interview. Once the placement is made, the student is enrolled on a probationary basis with a final evaluation made prior to permanent enrollment. This is to ensure that the student’s academic, emotional, and social needs are best served by our program. A positive behavior modification program enables the student to use their “points” for rewards.
Extracurricular Activities
In an effort to provide a well-rounded educational and social experience, the Enhancement Technology Program includes many activities offered in a mainstream academic environment, such as; student government, off-site recreational outings, intramural sports, yearbook committee, a school newsletter and a music program. Our adventure education based program allows the students to experience team building skills both in school and on outward bound trips, such as kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking , fishing, and more.
